Fencing Summer Term Just Started - Sports for Adults and Children in North East Hampshire and South East Surrey
Fencing Summer Term Just Started - Sports for Adults and Children in North East Hampshire and South East Surrey
The summer term at the Farnborough Fencing Club has just started and will go on for another few months. We will be learning Foil for the majority of the term with some Epee Fencing at the end.
We usually end the term with a class competition that is good fun as well as giving the students a chance to judge fencing for themselves and see how well they have progressed that term.
Please note that the adult night courses in Fencing are full of a mixed range of people, ages, and skills. You might find yourself fighting against a 16 year old pro one minutes and a brand new starter the next.
Remember! The only way you learn and become better is to fight people better than yourself!
The Farnborough Fencing club is always on the lookout for new members and if interested you just need to contact Samuel Cody school on 01252 401081.
Here you can find out a lot more about the Farnborough or North East HANTS & South East Surrey Fencing Club, as well as other night time adult classes the school holds on the Contact page.
So sign up now for the next term of Fencing which will be the Autumn season after the schools summer holiday.
One thing you can do to prepare yourself for the sport is to stretch your wrists so they are flexible.
The reason is that many people come here with a martial arts background and find it hard to make little wrist movements due to the tightening of their wrists over the years from doing press ups on their knuckles, or learning to punch properly.
These are all factors that tighten the tendons in the wrist. Loosening these tendons to make it easier for you to fence is a good idea if you are planning on joining any Fencing club.
Exercises that help loosen the tendons in the wrists can be practised any time, at work, at home or out and about and just involve you moving your hands into positions that help stretch your wrists,
So if you are interested in coming fencing next term then just go to the contact page and ring Samuel Cody Adult education classes at the school to ask for more information. We offer adult and child classes.
A paper pamphlet can also be picked up from the school reception that provides information on the many adult activities Samuel Cody do including Art, History, dancing and various other sports,
Thanks
Ian Colling

Why not start a new sport that you may never have even thought about? Many people think of fencing as a pastime for the rich or the posh but in reality fencing is a great sport as well as a social activity that will help you meet people of all ages and social groups.
The Night-time Fencing club at Samuel Cody School is an ideal sport for both the young and old.
People of all ages come together to take part in our regular Thursday night Fencing classes to enjoy the exercise as well as the socialising it brings to their lives.
The best thing is that you won't even have to fork out the £100+ it costs for all the fencing equipment like other sports.
We supply all our students with all the gear they need to fence with including:
- Swords including Foil, Epee and Sabre.
- Helmets.
- Thick jackets that prevent any blade breaking through them,
- Gloves to protect your hands.
- Chest protectors, both for women and men if they wish to use them.
- We also recommend that men buy groin guards just in-case of the occasional low blow!
The fencing equipment is cleaned every week but if you wish to buy your own swords, helmets or anything else there is nothing stopping you from doing so.
In fact there is a good shop in Aldershot that supplies fencing equipment if you need some on the High Street called PBT. More details can be found here,
If you fancy giving fencing a go then why not ring up Samuel Cody School on the phone number: 01252 401081 to get more details.
More information can be found on the Contact Us page including the location of the school we hold the classes in and directions to it.
